IUI Treatment For Unexplained, Ambiguous Problems
IUI is a procedure to separate fast-moving sperm from more sluggish or non-moving sperm. This procedure can be performed with your partner’s sperm or donor sperm. For couples with infertility problems, IUI can improve the chances of pregnancy.
Donor sperm are used in conditions where the male partner is sterile or has an extremely low sperm count, or carries a risk of genetic disease. In cases where a woman planning to conceive without a male partner can also use donor sperm.
Insemination procedures are least expensive and the simplest methods of assisted reproduction which do not involve any anaesthesia or surgery.
Is IUI for me? Or Could IUI benefit us?
You doctor may recommend IUI if:
- You use donated sperm in treatment.
- You find it difficult or is unable to have vaginal intercourse.
- You have a condition where one needs specific help to conceive. (for instance: If you’re a HIV man and have undergone sperm washing to reduce the risk transferring disease to your partner and child).
Other fertility problems which are treatable include:
- Unexplained infertility
- Cervical scarring / cervical mucus abnormalities
- Severe pain during sex
- Problems with ejaculation or erection
- Sexually transmitted disease.(HIV or hepatitis in either partner)
- Semen allergy
Success Rate:
If a man’s sperm are absent, low in quantity, or poor in quality, intrauterine insemination may slightly improve the chances—by up to 10%—that the female partner will become pregnant.

Success rates depend on a couple’s fertility problem and age. If the women’s age is greater than 35 years the rate of success gets decreased. However, other factor that helps IUI to work is that a women’s fallopian tubes must be open and healthy.
